Kansas county fairgoer tests positive for COVID-19 after attending rodeo, other events
A Kansas fairgoer has tested positive for the coronavirus disease, prompting public health officials to warn other attendees to monitor themselves for symptoms.
The Wabaunsee County Health Department said in a news release on Wednesday that at least one person who attended the Wabaunsee County Fair between July 24 and July 27 has tested positive for COVID-19. The fairgoer had attended several events, including the rodeo, lawn chair concert, parade and a feed.
Anyone who attended the fair should monitor themselves for symptoms, which include fever, chills, headache, muscle aches, runny nose, sore throat, loss of taste and smell, fatigue, cough, wheezing, shortness of breath, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. People who become sick should call their doctor or the health department at 785-765-2425 to get tested.
The Wabaunsee county seat, Alma, is about 40 miles west of Topeka.
The county fair went on after the Kansas State Fair Board voted unanimously to cancel the 2020 state fair due to the pandemic.
