Sedgwick County passes 1,500 active cases of COVID-19 with jump of 77 in one day
Sedgwick County has more than 1,500 active cases of COVID-19 after an increase of 77 in one day.
The Sedgwick County Health Department’s online dashboard of coronavirus pandemic statistics listed 1,555 active cases of COVID-19 on Sunday. The 77 additional active cases since Saturday was an increase of 5.2%.
There were also seven more recoveries reported, bringing the total to 1,050. No new deaths were reported, keeping the total at 32 local patients dead from the coronavirus disease.
Public health officials reported 84 new cases, bringing the cumulative total since the pandemic hit Kansas to 2,637 cases.
Epidemiologists have not identified the source of exposure for any of the new cases of COVID-19. About 54% of all the county’s cases — 1,422 — are still under investigation. About 27%, or 723 cases, had been in close contact with another confirmed case. Another 418 cases, or about 16% of the total, were likely infected through community spread. The remaining 74 cases, which is less than 3% of the total, were travel-related.
About 79% of all the new cases were patients between the ages of 20 and 59 years old.
The infant to 19-year-old age group increased by nine cases to 356. The 20-39 age group increased by 38 to 1,093 cases. The 40-59 group increased by 28 to 725. The 60-79 group increased by nine to 335. The 80 and older age group had no new cases, staying at 128.
An additional 839 people were tested, bringing the county’s total to 44,560. The percentage of tests that come back positive also increased, from 10.91% on Friday to 11.05% on Saturday. The percentages are rolling 14-day averages.
The county health department releases updated hospitalization numbers from Wichita on Mondays.
