Coronavirus update: Sedgwick County reports six new COVID-19 cases, no new deaths

Local public health officials reported six new cases of the novel coronavirus in Sedgwick County on Sunday.

The number of active cases also rose by six as there were no new recoveries or deaths, according to the Sedgwick County Health Department’s online dashboard.

There have now been 745 total cases of COVID-19, 499 recoveries and 25 deaths in the county, putting the number of active cases at 221.

The number of active cases is the highest it has ever been in Sedgwick County. It had previously peaked in late April and declined for most of May, but started to increase again around the same time all coronavirus-related restrictions were lifted in late May.

There have been 20,699 people tested. The number increased by 412 since Saturday.

The 14-day average percentage of tests that come back positive dropped from 2.85% on Friday to 2.63% as of Saturday.

Three COVID-19 patients were hospitalized last week and one patient was discharged. It was the third week in a row with more hospital admissions than discharges. There have been 118 hospitalizations and 98 patients discharged since the pandemic hit Sedgwick County.
