Coronavirus updates: Sedgwick County sees two deaths overnight
The Sedgwick County Health Department reported two new COVID-19 related deaths and 11 new cases, bringing the totals to 25 and 739, respectively.
Last month, Sedgwick County reported more than 80% of deaths came from clusters at long-term care facilities. A fourth long-term care facility cluster was reported this week at Diversicare of Haysville, where 14 residents and eight staff members tested positive for COVID-19.
On Friday, Sedgwick County reported 215 active cases, which is the most the county has had. Active cases are cases minus recoveries and deaths.
Additionally, Kansas Department of Health and Environment data shows Sedgwick County is trending upwards in daily case rates per 100,000 people and hospitalizations, which are opposite of the statewide trends.
In Sedgwick County, the data is from May 24 to June 6 for hospitalizations and May 24 to June 7 for new cases. The data lags behind because the most recent data “is expected to be incomplete.”
Sedgwick County is one of the 66 counties, out of 105 in Kansas, that have no restrictions in place after Gov. Laura Kelly turned over responsibility to each county on May 26, according to the Kansas Health Institute.
The KDHE, which reports figures on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, reported 11,047 cases and 243 deaths.
