Coronavirus updates: Kansas sees 10 new deaths and 223 more cases

Double-digit deaths and triple-digit new cases

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment reported 10 more COVID-19 related deaths and 223 more cases, bringing the totals to 232 deaths and 10,393 cases.

Clusters account for 5,391 cases, or about 52% of the total, and 163 deaths, or about 73%. Clusters at meatpacking facilities account for the largest amount of cases, with 2,833. Twelve deaths have been attributed to those clusters. Long-term care facilities make up the largest amount of deaths at 123. Those facilities have 748 COVID-19 cases.

Ford County, where additional federal support has led to increased testing at meatpacking facilities, has the most cases with 1,823.

Sedgwick County is one of the 10 counties, and the only in south-central Kansas, with more than 100 cases. Sedgwick County saw an increase of 26 cases, bringing the total to 624. Sedgwick County officials have reported 21 deaths.

The KDHE reports figures on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Sedgwick County seeks input on spending roughly $100 million in federal aid

Sedgwick County is seeking input in determining how to spend its roughly $100 million in federal dollars from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act. The county is mainly seeking input from people in local government, healthcare, assisted living, social and community support services and education. The county wants to know how the pandemic impacted costs through June 1 and anticipated costs for the rest of the year.
