Coronavirus updates: Kansas sees biggest daily jump with 186 new cases
State public health officials report 186 new cases of COVID-19, the largest daily jump in Kansas cases, a day after local officials reported the biggest increase in Sedgwick County.
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment’s COVID-19 report on Wednesday showed 2,211 people had tested positive, including 265 in Sedgwick County. The statewide death count is 110, with five in Sedgwick County.
The KDHE report on Tuesday listed 2,025 Kansas cases, 107 deaths and 251 cases in Sedgwick County.
The Sedgwick County Health Department in its own report on Tuesday listed 283 COVID-19 cases, up from 250 on Monday. The 33 new cases is the single biggest daily jump in cases for the county.
On Wednesday, the county health department reported 295 cases and 143 recoveries, compared to the 265 cases in the KDHE report. A Sedgwick County spokesperson said the county health department’s numbers are accurate. The discrepancy is due to confirmed cases not being finalized in the KDHE reporting system.
Patients in Kansas range in age from infant to 99 years old with an average age of 50 and a median of 50. At least 432 people have been hospitalized, but hospitalization data is not available in all cases.
There have been 17,992 negative tests in the state.
In Sedgwick County, 2,678 people have been tested and the testing rate is 5.19 per 1,000 population.
In the Wichita area, Reno County has 15 cases, Butler County has 13, Harvey County has five, Sumner County has three, Cowley County has one, and Kingman County has zero.
State hospital worker tests positive
A woman who works at Larned State Hospital has tested positive for COVID-19, the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services announced Wednesday. She last worked on Saturday. It’s the first positive case of an employee or resident at the psychiatric facility.
