First Sumner County coronavirus patient dies while hospitalized in Sedgwick County
Public health officials report Sumner County now has its first patient death due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.
The Sumner County Health Department said in a Thursday news release that the patient died while hospitalized in Sedgwick County.
“Our deepest condolences go to the family,” Laura Rettig of the health department said in a statement. “We are very sadden by the news. His passing is a sad reminder of how serious this pandemic is. And also how we must work together to slow the spread of COVID-19.”
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment reports 42 deaths statewide and 1,106 confirmed cases. There have been two patients test positive in Sumner County.
