Coronavirus updates: Kansas cases at 1,106 with 42 deaths; 161 patients in Sedgwick County

New Kansas coronavirus numbers

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment reports 1,106 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus in the state and 42 deaths from COVID-19.

Sedgwick County has 161 cases. The Sedgwick County Health Department reports 25 cases were travel-related, 61 were people who had close contact with another confirmed case, 32 are believed to be community spread with an unknown source and 43 remain under investigation.

Two people have died in Sedgwick County.

Statewide, there have been 9,669 negative tests.

Coronavirus scam

The Sedgwick County Health Department has had reports about people getting text messages in a “potential scam related to COVID-19.” The messages tell the person they have been in contact with someone infected with COVID-19 and directs them to fill out an online survey where they will enter personal information. Anyone who received a scam text can take a screenshot of it and send the picture to covid19@sedgwick.gov.

Drycleaning business underwrites garment bags for Ascension Via Christi

In The Bag Cleaners was contacted after a nurse came up with the idea to transport their scrubs in a bag, reducing the spread of contaminants while they take their clothes home to be washed. The company contacted their “bag supplier, negotiated a better price and even paid for a large portion” of the 5,000 garment bags, Ascension Via Christi said in a news release.

Ad Astra Coalition to help fight COVID-19

Wichita State University announced a group of organizations formed the Ad Astra Coalition to help fight the virus in a two-phase approach: helping to create and distribute personal protective equipment for medical workers and recovery efforts when the pandemic subsides. The coalition members are Airbus Americas Engineering, Spirit AeroSystems, Textron Aviation, Wichita State University and WSU Tech.
