Second Wichita-area coronavirus case confirmed in Butler County. Kansas total at 35

A second person in the Wichita area has tested positive for the new coronavirus.

The Butler County Health Department said in a news release that the case was identified through a test sent to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment laboratory. The case brings the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Kansas to 35, with two cases in Butler County.

Jamie Downs, administrator of the Butler County Health Department, said in a statement that the patient is a woman in her 60s who had traveled within the United States. Downs said the health department has identified everyone she contacted while infectious and will monitor them for fever and respiratory symptoms.

The patient is at home in isolation, Downs said.

Wichita and Sedgwick County have not had a confirmed case of coronavirus in a resident, though the previous Butler County COVID-19 patient was temporarily hospitalized in Wichita.
