Company draws on couple’s experiences to help small businesses

A Wichita couple hope to use their experience working in businesses large and small to help other entrepreneurs.

“We think we can share some of the pitfalls as well as the successes we’ve seen in our own business,“ said Kevin Regular, who started Rockstone Consulting Group with his wife, Dinia, six months ago.

The Regulars previously owned a business called Treasured Body, which made bath and body products. In addition, both have worked for some of the area’s largest employers and continue to do so while running their consulting company on the side.

The Regulars started dating in high school in Wichita and have been together ever since. Both attended Baker University and the University of Phoenix.

Kevin Regular has worked for Hawker Beechcraft Corp., the Apollo Education Group and American Family Insurance. He said he’s currently employed by Koch Industries as a certified contract specialist.

Dinia Regular has worked for Sunflower Bank and Morgan Stanley and is currently an office manager at Edward Jones Investments.

The couple say they’re using that background to help small businesses in a number of areas, including marketing, procurement, sales and negotiating.

After marketing – “You have to brand yourself for people to actually want to do business with you,” Dinia Regular said – they think one of the most important areas for companies to focus on is customer retention.

“We know it costs so much more to attract new business than it does serving the business you currently have,” she said. “We look at how you interact with clients from start to finish, then identify where improvements can be made.

“Are you focused on the client, trying to satisfy their needs and wants? You need to be relationship-focused so you can have repeat business for added value on both sides.”

Kevin Regular said his experience as a contract specialist enables him to help clients reduce unforeseen risks when negotiating with buyers and sellers.

“I’ve been doing this for 18 years, reviewing terms and conditions to make sure of the details we’re signing off on,” he said.

The Regulars ran Treasured Body for seven years, doing everything from creating fragrances and packaging them to marketing and sales. One of their first Rockstone clients was a California businesswoman with a skin care enhancement service.

“She was trying to attract a certain clientele, and her marketing and advertising just wasn’t reflecting that,” Dinia Regular said.

The couple’s interest in business appears to have rubbed off on their children: daughter Kinchazsa works for CrossFirst Bank, and son Kevin Jr., 22, owns a construction business.

Indeed, their son is a Rockstone client.

“We’re helping him to develop that,” his father said.
