Home prices in the Wichita area, including distressed sales such as short sales, rose 3 percent in August compared with August 2014, according to real estate firm CoreLogic.

From a year ago, home prices rose 4.9 percent in Kansas and 6.9 percent nationally.

CoreLogic forecasts that higher mortgage rates and more new construction will slow national home price appreciation to 4.3 percent by August 2016.
