Area’s home sales slip in May, but remain up for the year

Home sales in the Wichita area edged lower in May, according to a South Central Kansas Multiple Listing Service report.

The report said 909 existing and new houses were sold in the area last month, compared with 973 in the same month a year ago.

That total includes 866 existing houses, down 6.5 percent from the 926 sold in May 2014. It also includes 43 new houses, down from the 47 sold in the same month last year, off 8.5 percent.

But, year-to-date, total house sales in the area were 3,509. That was up 2.5 percent from 3,422 house sales through the first five months of 2014.
