Dr. Donna Sweet earns award from American College of Physicians

Wichita physician Donna E. Sweet has been recognized by the American College of Physicians for her work advancing medical standards and practice and her support of the ACP.

An internist, Sweet will receive the Alfred Stengel Memorial Award for Outstanding Service at ACP’s Internal Medicine Meeting April 30 in Boston, according to a news release from the group.

Sweet is professor of internal medicine at the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita and is director of internal medicine education at Via Christi-St. Francis. She also is director and principal investigator of the Kansas AIDS Education and Training Center.

Much of her professional work has been focused on AIDS treatment, education and clinical research.

Selection for the award is “based upon ‘unusual loyalty and exceptional contributions to the aims and purposes of the College, as well as the recipient’s outstanding influence in maintaining and advancing the best standards of medical education, medical practice, and clinical research,’ ” according to the release.

The Kansas native is a graduate of Wichita State University and the University of Kansas School of Medicine. She completed her residency training at the University of Kansas Medical Center.
