Hutchinson Regional Medical Center to build new ICU

Hutchinson Regional Medical Center says it plans to build a new 18-bed intensive care unit, according to a news release from the medical center.

The hospital’s news release said rooms in its existing intensive care unit are too small for the equipment and cables needed for patients.

The project costs $23 million in total, and includes an electrical update to the medical center’s 41-year-old building. Funding will come from hospital revenue bonds and a $4 million donation from the Hutchinson Regional Medical Foundation, according to the news release.

The hospital also recently constructed a new emergency department.

The hospital’s news release said the intensive care unit construction will take about two years to complete.
