Planet Sub on Kellogg closes; company plans to reopen elsewhere

The Planet Sub at One Kellogg Place at Kellogg and Greenwich has closed, but it’s going to reopen elsewhere eventually.

“Our lease at Kellogg was up, and we were having trouble coming to terms with that landlord,” says Ryan Joy, director of franchising. “We decided that we would just close.”

That’s even though the store “was actually doing pretty well.”

Joy says part of the decision was based on the future widening of Kellogg in that area.

“We thought it was just a better move to close it while we could.”

He says the plan is to relocate “relatively soon.”

The Planet Sub near 35th and North Rock Road is still open. Joy says the chain is considering some remodeling there.

The Kansas City-based chain has 36 stores now with two more coming by the end of February. There will be 22 new Planet Subs opening this year, and there are development agreements for more than 60 over the next four years, Joy says.

“There will be some pretty exciting announcements in Wichita over the next few months,” he says.

When the Kellogg Planet Sub relocates, Joy says it may be closer to where Costco is going to open at Kellogg and Webb.

“There’s a lot of redevelopment going on at that end of town.”

Joy says to look for an announcement – or announcements – in the next 60 days.
