The new J. Crew Mercantile opens at 10 a.m. at Bradley Fair on Wednesday.
“This is a really big thing for Wichita,” says Amy Liebau, spokeswoman for Laham Development, the developer of the center at 21st and Rock Road.
J. Crew started its Mercantile concept last summer to offer the classic styles it’s known for at a lower price point.
The store is between J. Jill and Soma Intimates in the space where Brick’s used to be. Bradley Fair added square footage behind the former Brick’s space for a total of 5,500 square feet.

Because it’s a larger space, the store will be able to carry clothing for men, women and children, unlike some other J. Crew Mercantile stores.
Liebau says there will be a kickoff party from 4 to 8 p.m. with drinks, snacks and 20 percent off of purchases of $125 or more.
A portion of sales during that time will be donated to the Kansas Humane Society.
Liebau says she expects J. Crew Mercantile to do well in Wichita.
“When we announced this, it blew up our Facebook page.”
There were comments such as “Now I never have to leave Wichita,” she says.
“We were overwhelmed with the response that we got.”
