A year ago, Via Christi Health created a video that’s just now getting some buzz, but not where anyone expected it to.
The video is about walking like a penguin in order to stay upright on snow and ice.
“It got some views,” says Terry Rombeck, Via Christi’s digital communications manager.
The video had about 1,000 views – until last week.

“All of a sudden last week, it kind of skyrocketed,” Rombeck says. “We were like, what the heck?”
After some investigating, he says, he discovered “all the views were coming from Sweden, which is really weird.”
It turns out the Nerikes Allehanda newspaper in Orebro, Sweden, picked up the video. Rombeck isn’t sure how or why.
“Who knows? The Internet’s a weird place,” he says. “Your guess is as good as mine for why they picked it up.”
From Jan. 13 to 19, there were 5,400 views of the video, mostly from Sweden.
The video shows Via Christi communications coordinator Cori Dodds demonstrating how to walk like a penguin.
“So we get to give her a hard time for being … an international superstar now,” Rombeck says.
He says he did some further checking and learned it snows about half the time during Swedish winters.
“If anybody ought to be teaching anybody how to walk on snow and ice, it ought to be them teaching us.”
Via Christi also has a blog about healthy living, so now Rombeck jokes that he’s thinking about putting a recipe for Swedish meatballs on it.
“I think I’m joking, but, hey … maybe this is a market that’s untapped for Via Christi.”
