Emprise Bank has purchased almost an acre and a half at the northeast corner of 37th and Maize Road for a possible future bank branch.

“We had an opportunity to buy that corner, and we think it would be a good one for a bank,” says Tom Page, CEO of the $1.5 billion Wichita-based bank.

He says the bank doesn’t have plans to immediately build there.

Emprise closed its branch at 53rd and Maize Road last year.

“It was one of our very lowest-volume branches,” Page says.

Within the last few weeks, the bank also closed its branch near 21st and Ridge Road.

“We had an opportunity to sell that to QuikTrip,” Page says.

He says both closed branches were in areas where traffic patterns had evolved. Also, Page says getting in and out of the 21st Street branch “had become really difficult.”

Emprise acquired each of those branches in its 2006 acquisition of the former Prairie State Bank.

The bank recently opened a new branch in Hays, Page says, and has a new temporary branch in McPherson where a new permanent branch will be built later this year.

“We’re constantly evaluating our branch footprint.”
