Following its recent filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization, Mississippi-based Hancock Fabrics is closing one of its Wichita stores but keeping the other open.

The chain, which sells fabric, craft and sewing supplies, is closing 70 stores nationally out of 263.

The closures include the Hancock Fabrics at Eastgate Plaza at Kellogg and Rock.

“They’ve started their closing sale,” says spokeswoman Brenda Adrian.

She says it’s not clear when the final day of business will be. The store will remain open until most if not all of its inventory is gone.

The Hancock Fabrics at the southwest corner of Central and Ridge Road will remain open.

Adrian says she can’t say why the chain chose that store to keep open over the one in Eastgate.

“They haven’t given details on specific stores.”
