Alpha 1 Drop Zone is dropping into a new west Wichita zone.

“We’ve outgrown this place,” owner Brad Yates says of his current 1,950 square feet near 21st and Tyler.

“We don’t really have any room to grow here.”

The store opened in 1991 and sells Army and Navy supplies along with sporting goods, camping equipment and firearms and ammunition.

In April, it’s moving to 6,000 square feet at 443 N. Maize Road, which is south of Central.

Yates says the new space will have a room for gunsmithing and gun cleaning. There also will be a room for training for such things as firearm safety and first aid.

“That’s going to give us the opportunity to provide services for customers … that they’ve asked for over the years,” he says.

Also, Yates says the additional space will allow him room “so that we can show our products better.”
