A new business is opening on Valentine’s Day in part of the former Cero’s Candies space in Old Town, but it’s not going to sell chocolate.
Christin Owens and some partners are opening Kissy Nails, a nail boutique that he says is named after a nickname his grandmother gave him.
“I needed something personal,” he says of naming the shop. He says it’s a cute name that also honors his grandmother.
“My grandmother called me Kissy since I was a baby.”

The 2,900-square-foot space at 1108 E. Douglas, which is just to the east of the QuikTrip at Douglas and Washington, will be what Owens calls a nontraditional space.
“We’re not setting up the location like a typical nail salon.”
Owens says it’ll be more like a living room in someone’s house.
Kissy will offer manicures, pedicures and eyelash extensions. There also will be eyebrow treatments.
When the business initally opens, Owens says there will be four or five nail technicians, but he says there is room for about 10 employees.
Owens says he chose Old Town for its central location. Also, he says, there’s not a lot of nearby competition, and there’s an increasing amount of residential in the area. He says he also likes the idea of customers popping in over their lunch hours.
Kissy also will have polish parties for young girls.
“That’s something we’re very excited to offer,” Owens says.
He says he also plans to give back to the community by bringing some sparkle to senior citizens and girls with special needs by donating services to them.
“It’s just a way to make girls feel better,” Owens says.
He says he hopes customers feel better, too, that Kissy is giving back.
“You’re spending your money in a good place.”
