Chad Raymond used to work in the corporate office for Wichita-based Mattress Hub, and he owned a couple of the stores as well.
“I wasn’t where I wanted to be as far as an owner,” he says. “I was more like a silent partner.”
So he says he “hired a franchise consultant just to see what was out there.”
The consultant repeatedly brought up AAMCO, but Raymond wasn’t interested.

“I told him no probably 10 times,” he says. “It was just a big investment. More than I really wanted to take on.”
The consultant convinced him, though, and now Raymond and business partner Mark Barrientos are getting ready to open their third AAMCO transmission center.
The new AAMCO will open with four bays at 901 S. Woodlawn on Feb. 1.
The partners opened their first AAMCO at 703 N. West St. about two years ago. Six months ago, they opened their second at 1002 E. Lincoln.
“We are the complete, total car care center,” Barrientos says.
He says that could be anything from an oil change to an engine replacement.
Raymond says he was comfortable moving into the automotive business because “AAMCO has a great system.”
Barrientos was a former partner in the Mattress Hub chain.
He says he left “really just to go after … additional business opportunities.”
Ryan Baty still owns Mattress Hub.
“I’ve always been interested in … the service industry,” Barrientos says.
He and Raymond say they’re interested in expanding more, including possibly beyond Wichita.
“Basically, we’re hoping that the sky is the limit,” Barrientos says.
For now, though, Raymond says he’d “like to just run the three for a while.”
