Genghis Grill closes on west side; east side Genghis to remain open

The west-side Genghis Grill near Central and Tyler has closed.

Former manager Nic Mans, who now is a manager at the Genghis Grill at Douglas and Rock Road, says he wasn’t given a reason for the closing.

No one from the corporate office, which owns the Wichita Genghis Grill franchises, could be reached for comment.

Terry Newman and Frank Carney’s PJ Wichita group opened Wichita’s first Genghis Grill in 2009 in former Bennigan’s space.

In 2010, they opened the west Genghis Grill in former Krispy Kreme space.

The two sold both restaurants in late 2013.

“It’s a sad day for me,” Newman said at the time. “I really love Genghis Grill.”

He said the new owners were “going to keep the stores doing what they’re doing” and that “it’s really good news.”

Mans says the east-side Genghis Grill isn’t going to close.

“Oh, no. No, no, no,” he says. “It’s a solid restaurant … especially with this location. It’s not going anywhere.”
