Occidental Management is getting a new next-door neighbor at its headquarters in the Northrock Office Park near North Rock Road and East 32nd Street North, and it’s going to be a convenient one.
CPA firm Fortner & Short, which counts Occidental as a client, is taking 2,719 square feet at the building.
“We’re glad to have them,” says Occidental chairman and CEO Gary Oborny, who also handled the deal.
“They do a great job, too,” Oborny says. “It’s been a longstanding relationship between the two companies.”

Currently, Fortner & Short is in about the same size space at 2024 N. Woodlawn.
There are a few reasons for the move says Richard Fortner.
“I’m going to call it an upgrade in our office environment,” he says.
Though the spaces are roughly the same size, Fortner says the new one will be tailored to the firm’s needs.
“The primary thing is the office location is going to be right at Rock Road and the K-96 expressway,” Fortner says. “We’re looking forward to a little better accessibility there on 96.”
He says a lot of clients visit the office, and a lot of the firm’s employees drive to see clients.
Fortner says having a client such as Occidental next store is “an intangible.”
The firm started in 1998 and has been on Woodlawn since 2006.
“We expect to be in our new office starting December 15,” Fortner says.
Spangenberg Phillips Tice Architecture is the architect, and Sauerwein Construction is the contractor.
Oborny says there’s about 1,500 square feet left to lease at Northrock.
