Editor’s note: The item below has been changed to reflect where next year’s Wichita Sport Show may be.
Wichita’s 60-year-old boat and sport show is out, and a new one is in. At least for this year.
“We’re just skipping it this year,” says Vilma Fraguada, an out-of-state organizer with the Kansas Sports, Boat and Travel Show.
“We love the community, we love our exhibitors, but we really didn’t have a lot of dealer participation last year,” she says.

The new Wichita Outdoor Sports Marketing Association is going to put on the new Wichita Sport Show Jan. 29 through Feb. 1.
“We want to get it back to where it used to be,” spokesman Pat Kelly says.
“It was very exciting for people to come.”
Kelly says there will be a range of activities and interests at the new show. They include 150 small booths and about a dozen larger ones.
There will be watercraft, motorcycles, boats and RVs. There will be cooking demonstrations and taxidermy and archery areas. There will be an off-the-grid zone for what Kelly calls “self-reliance kind of people” and a travel and adventure area. There will be a kids zone and a fishing pond where children can catch live fish.
While Fraguada says it’s possible the Kansas Sports, Boat and Travel Show could return at a new venue in the future, Kelly says it’s a sure thing that the Wichita Sport Show will be back.
He says the event is already being planned for 2016, though it’s not clear yet where it will be held.
“It will be an annual tradition.”
