In July, Have You Heard? reported that Bubba’s 33 is going to open in Rockwood Plaza just north of LongHorn Steakhouse at the northeast corner of Kellogg and Towne East Square Drive.

Construction is now underway.

“They are expected to open in the spring,” says Laham Development spokeswoman Amy Liebau.

“We are excited to add them to the existing restaurant mix,” she says.

Old Chicago also is in the area.

Bubba’s is a sister concept to Texas Roadhouse, a restaurant on West Kellogg that has been so successful in Wichita that its Louisville-based owner decided to open the other concept here.

Bubba’s main menu consists of pizza, burgers and beer, though it has salads and other dishes as well.

The “33” in the restaurant’s name is for the 33-degree beer Bubba’s serves.

The 8,900-square-foot restaurant will have more TVs – more than 60 total – than tables. Management says it’s not a sports bar but something of a sports restaurant.

Liebau says there’s one parcel, which is just over 1.5 acres, left to development in Rockwood Plaza.

“A restaurant does seem like it would be a … natural fit,” she says.

However, she adds, “We … will let the market tell us what it should be.”
