QuikTrip prepares to expand one store and has closed another

It was October 2012 when Have You Heard? first reported that QuikTrip purchased extra land behind its store at Broadway and Murdock.

Now, the Tulsa-based company is taking its first steps toward building a new Generation 3 store there.

QuikTrip is doing some preliminary work with the city to prepare the property. Spokesman Mike Thornbrugh says construction will start sometime this spring. That could be anytime between March and May. Construction will take 22 to 26 weeks to complete. That means the new store should open before the end of next year.

One store that isn’t among the many QuikTrips that are either being rebuilt or moved is the one that was at 47th and Oliver.

That store has closed, and Thornbrugh says it isn’t reopening.

“It’s just a much older model, and with all the repositioning and new stores we’re putting in, it became a victim of consolidation.”
