David Chaffin is, once again, out of the restaurant business.
“We had to shut Joe’s down today,” he says of his Shoeless Joe’s Old Fashioned Burgers & Phillys just west of 21st and Amidon.
“I worked it hard for three years,” Chaffin says.
He says he feels like he got sales to the maximum of where they could be.

“I exhausted all of my personal resources.”
Chaffin says he was behind on rent and had a talk with his landlord about reducing what he pays.
“I basically showed him all my numbers,” he says. “Without a rent reduction, I could not make it.”
Chaffin says his landlord told him he couldn’t lower the rent.
Previously, Chaffin owned Players Sports Bar & Grill, which became Brooklyn’s Chophouse & Brew Tavern.
He had filed for bankruptcy when he was approached by a group of investors about starting Shoeless Joe’s.
Chaffin isn’t sure if he’ll ever open another restaurant.
“It’s not really up to me.”
Nor is he sure what he’ll do next.
“Oh, I don’t know. Look for work I guess.”
