UPDATED – Hardee’s is returning to Wichita with a new restaurant at New Leaf Plaza at 21st and Amidon.
The restaurant will be on a pad site along Amidon in the front of the development, where A-OK Pawn Shop and a Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market are.
“The hope is to have that location … open by the end of the year,” says Jay Burgmann, regional marketing manager.
He says construction should start in the next week and take 100 days to complete, “barring crazy weather and things.”

Denver-based Summit Restaurant Development is the franchisee group opening this Hardee’s. Summit is one of the largest franchisees in the chain and has not been in the Wichita market previously.
“They are looking at several more sites for second and third quarter next year,” Burgmann says.
He says the group hasn’t finalized which Hardee’s model it will build here.
Summit has been in the Kansas City market for about the last eight years.
“They feel that Wichita is a fantastic growth market,” Burgmann says.
Leisa Lowry and Krista Lowry of J.P. Weigand & Sons handled the New Leaf deal.
Hardee’s has about 3,600 restaurants in 44 states and almost 40 foreign countries.
In addition to the Wichita market, Burgmann says Hardee’s is expanding elsewhere.
“Our company is in a growth stage, and we are looking for more locations as well as franchisees to open more locations,” he says.
“If sites can be found and deals can be struck, there’s more opportunity for growth not just in Wichita, but all of our markets.”
