Circadia, a contract furniture dealership with a focus on commercial customers, is expanding in Wichita with a brick-and-mortar store and showroom in the Icehouse downtown.

“We just wanted to have a bigger presence here,” said Sherri Smith, market manager.

The Lenexa company already has been doing business with Wichita customers for years.

Part of the impetus for the store is the company is now a Steelcase dealership, and a showroom can help promote that.

The store also will sell flooring.

In some markets, Circadia offers construction services, but that won’t be the case in Wichita.

Smith said the company sometimes outfits home offices, but, “mostly, we focus on commercial spaces.”

That’s because its commercial furniture is rated to be in commercial spaces.

The store, which will be at 165 S. Rock Island, will be about 4,000 square feet.

“We call it kind of a working showroom,” Smith said.

She said the goal is to have an eclectic, even funky kind of hospitality vibe in the space instead of a corporate feel like some of its competitors’ showrooms have.

“We kind of want to be something a little unique and different.”

Circadia’s name is a reference to being in a natural rhythm, Smith said.

“We want people to feel that way in their workspace.”

Smith said she plans to hire account managers and designers before an early October opening.

Look for more information, along with photos of the furniture and the showroom, then.

“Opening a Wichita office is about more than expanding our footprint — it’s investing in an area we believe in, and with an office leader that knows the area well,” Circadia president Bryan Osler said in an e-mailed statement.

“We want to build strong relationships here, understand what local organizations need and be a trusted partner as they create spaces that nurture their people, their work environment and their goals.”
