New option for independent living coming to the west side in the form of cottages
The almost 2-year-old Cedarhurst of Wichita is expanding by adding independent living cottages to its property at the northeast corner of 119th West and 29th North.
The St. Louis company opened in Wichita in late 2024 to offer a community for people needing assisted living and memory care.
There are 60 assisted-living units and 27 memory-care units.
Construction has just begun on 24 independent-living cottages.
“It’ll all be . . . one campus,” said Ryan Davis, corporate communications manager.
Residents living in the cottages can opt for a meal plan to eat with the larger community if they choose.
The cottages are open to people age 55 and older.
Each cottage will have a two-bedroom floor plan and private garages with outlets for electric vehicles.
There also will be covered patios, gas fireplaces, walk-in closets, washers and dryers and full-sized kitchen appliances.
Davis said everything is designed “just for that maintenance-free lifestyle.”
“They’re very, very nice.”
Cedarhurst has more than 50 communities in eight states, mostly in the Midwest.
That includes communities in Lawrence and Salina along with Topeka, where cottages also are under construction and should be ready no later than this fall.
New communities are under construction in Shawnee and Manhattan, too.
Davis said the company still is finalizing Wichita pricing along with floor plans. Look for more information on that this fall.
He also said the Wichita cottages, which will be ready next summer, are all about meeting a demand for high-quality living.
“It’ll just be a nice way for everyone to live independently.”
