Walmart is updating two Wichita stores with new layouts, products and services
This year, Walmart will remodel more than 650 of its stores nationally, including five across Kansas and two in Wichita.
Those are a Neighborhood Market near Central and Maize Road and a Walmart Supercenter at One Kellogg Place at Kellogg and Greenwich.
The other Kansas stores are in Hays, Liberal, Pratt, Garden City and Emporia.
This follows more than $305 million the retail giant spent to upgrade other Kansas stores in the last five years.
Upgrades include new store layouts, services and technology to modernize both in-store and online shopping. With those upgrades, the chain has a goal of having most of its deliveries take no more than about an hour.
Expanded services include an in-store app to make navigating stores easier. It also can be used to book appointments, such as at the chain’s auto care center.
There will be new brands such as Jessica Simpson, Oura, Lemme and De’Longhi, and there will be interactive displays so customers can see how products will look in their own surroundings.
The store remodels will be completed in phases over the rest of this year.
In an e-mailed statement, Walmart senior vice president Jay Cordray said the chain is making investments to serve communities better.
“By modernizing our stores, we’re making everyday shopping more convenient and creating a more connected experience, while empowering our associates to better support the evolving needs of our customers.”
