To say that brothers Brandon and Rodney Steven II are having a big week in business is a serious understatement.

The two share all their businesses, but Brandon Steven focuses on car dealerships while Rodney Steven takes the lead on their Genesis Health Clubs.

Wednesday, Brandon Steven closed on their almost half-billion-dollar purchase of 12 new dealerships in Maryland.

Thursday, Rodney Steven closed on their purchase of nine new clubs, expanding the ever-growing chain’s reach in the western United States.

That includes Genesis’ first venture into New Mexico with five clubs and its expansion in Colorado with four more clubs.

“This is a big step forward for us,” Rodney Steven said in an e-mailed statement.

“Colorado has been a strong market for us, and New Mexico is a natural extension with great clubs, great teams, and strong regional support.”

Genesis now has 86 clubs in 14 states.

The four Colorado clubs Steven purchased are Colorado Athletic Clubs in the Denver and Boulder areas. Genesis already has three clubs in Fort Collins.

The five New Mexico Sports & Wellness clubs, which once were known as Wellbridge, that Genesis purchased are in Albuquerque.

Steven’s strategy has long been to build density in markets where Genesis locates.

Like his brother’s approach of selling one car at a time, Steven’s approach with clubs is fairly straightforward each time.

He likes to buy good clubs that Genesis immediately can support and then build on by investing in the facilities, their programming and their customers’ experiences.

“These are great clubs with great teams,” Steven said. “We’ll build on what’s working and keep raising the standard.”
