Dillons plans another Wichita grocery store, its first in more than a decade
For the first time in years, it looks like Dillons plans to build a new grocery store, this time in northwest Wichita.
The company has filed a building permit valued at $17.5 million at 6886 W. Village Circle, which is near the southeast corner of K-96 and Ridge Road. That’s Schellenberg Development’s Estancia development.
This would make the 16th Dillons in Wichita.
A Dillons spokeswoman said the company does not discuss potential plans at this stage of development.
“It is standard practice at Dillons not to announce projects until transactions are finalized and bids have been received to confirm the scope and feasibility,” Sheila Regehr said in an e-mail. “While we do have the intent to build and are actively working through final details, it would be premature to make any formal announcements with certainty at this time.”
Though Dillons has remodeled stores in recent years, this permit marks the first new store in more than 15 years.
In 2010, it scraped and rebuilt a store at Harry and Edgemoor.
In 2009, it replaced stores in Andover and Derby with new Dillons Marketplaces — the chain’s expanded concept.
However, 2004 was the last net new addition to the Wichita market with the Marketplace at Maple and 135th West.
