Delano business to move, but customers can keep their same parking spots — again
If the headline to this story sounds a bit familiar, it’s because — with the addition of the word again — it’s the same one from the last time Spektrum Music moved within Delano.
In 2023, record store owners Adam and Kirsten Phillips lost their lease along Douglas.
Adam Phillips said he thought the store, with its devoted clientele, would be all right moving a mere 300 feet away to 112 S. Handley just off of Douglas.
However, Phillips said he wanted that prime visibility back along with having additional space.
So, by choice this time, next month he’s moving the store 154 feet to 811 W. Douglas where a 24-hour gym used to be. That’s a couple of blocks west of Delano’s roundabout at the clock tower.
“He’s going to be — boom — right there on Douglas,” said Craig Ablah of Classic Real Estate.
Phillips said he’s been looking for new space for a year without much luck until Ablah got involved.
Kurt Hiss of InSite Real Estate Group represented the landlord.
With 2,200 square feet, the new space will be much larger than the current one.
“We’ll have a lot more space for products,” Phillips said.
He said there will be about 10,000 new records for customers to explore.
Also, Phillips said he’ll be able to do more community events, such as listening parties and album releases.
He’s also hoping to possibly host in-store performances and, one day, have a studio.
“I’ve got a lot of space and a lot of dreams,” Phillips said. “It’s kind of exciting for me to think about.”
He’s unloading albums from storage now and hopes to have the new store open by April 18, which is Record Store Day, which Phillips will celebrate by sharing special releases.
Phillips said the community, including other businesses around Spektrum Muzik, has been supportive of his store.
“We’ve been in Delano for 10-plus years, and we really love the neighborhood.”
