New — but familiar — West Kellogg furniture gallery offers a variety of choices

The massive Wichita Furniture & Mattress store on West Kellogg just west of West Street is known for good prices, but president and CEO Jordan Storey is hoping it now will be known for something else, too.

The new Gallery at Wichita Furniture is a 10,000-square-foot sort of store within the larger store that will offer higher-end custom-order furniture lines with more than 500 fabrics plus more than 50 leather styles from which to choose.

“This was exciting for us,” Storey said. “It’s been a passion of ours.”

He said the Gallery has been about a year in the making.

Though it’s accessible from within the larger store, Storey said the Gallery also has its own entrance and its own look and feel with different flooring, wall textures and lighting than the rest of the building.

“It really creates a vibe when you walk in, and I think it’s second to none. We spared no expense for sure.”

He called the bedroom, dining room and living room offerings “highly fashion forward and inspirational.”

“We want you to come in and get inspired by the vignettes that you see.”

There are a lot of lights and rugs, too.

In addition to making their own fabric choices, customers can select the arms and legs on pieces and even smaller details such as the nailheads.

“You can build it pretty much as nice as you want it.”

The merchandise will have what Storey called a “middle-high price point.”

Sofas will start around $2,100.

“We feel like it’s a hole in our market,” Storey said of these kinds of offerings.

He said he expects to work with builders and designers.

Some have already stopped by to check out the Gallery, and Storey said they were “blown away” at the options.

“They were blown away at our price points, too.”

If all goes as well as expected, Storey said an east-side Gallery probably will be next.

“We definitely want to expand upon this.”
