Another new tenant is moving into the former Food For Thought and one-time Larcher’s space on East Central, a couple of blocks west of Hillside.

Convergint, a global security integration company, is taking 9,336 square feet at 2929 E. Central.

That’s almost double what it has at its current Delano address, 305 N. Seneca.

The company has had a regional office in Wichita for 14 years.

It places electronic security systems in everything from small commercial properties to large, multisite businesses and entities, such as airports and schools.

General manager Sean Holman said the firm’s new East Central office will put it close to Wesley Medical Center, which was its first client in Wichita.

Convergint doesn’t manufacture its products, Holman said, but, “We install product, and so we have to have a good-size warehouse.”

He said he estimates the new site should be enough room “probably for the next seven years, we would hope.”

“It just kind of depends how the market goes.”

Fortunately, Holman said, even in down times “our industry is very forgiving.”

“It’s never really a slow time.”

In addition to office and warehouse space on East Central, Holman said there will be a training area as well.

Craig Ablah of Classic Real Estate represented Convergint in the deal.

CBRE’s Beau Hudson, who is one of the people developing the property, represented the development.

Convergint will join Focus Respiratory, which was the first tenant to sign a deal at the space in 2023.

Hudson said there is still a 2,600-square-foot space on the west end left to lease, and he said he’s open to a variety of potential tenants, including another office or a restaurant or retail business.

Though one of the perks of this address is its visibility, Holman said that’s not necessarily what his company needs.

However, its central location and easy access to Kellogg and the Canal Route are big pluses for the space.

So is the fact that it was a blank slate that allowed Convergint to design the exact layout the company needs, Holman said.

“That was probably one of the main driving factors of that location.”
