The 7-year-old Twist Yarn Shop in Delano is closing at the end of the year when owner Shelly Stilger’s lease is up.
“It’s just gotten really hard,” she says. “Sales haven’t dropped incredibly a lot, but enough that it’s been kind of a struggle.”
She says she has a great customer base, but she’s economized as much as she can and is tired of the financial ups and downs. Stilger say she has a young family and is weary of “the emotional ups and downs,” of the financial roller coaster.
The shop is in 1,200 square feet at 607 W. Douglas.

Stilger says she’ll liquidate her stock and continue offering classes through the end of the year.
She’s also open to selling the business if anyone is interested.
“It’s been a really good seven years,” Stilger says. “It’s not like it’s completely tragic and hopeless.”
