A couple years after opening its first orthopedic urgent care clinic on the east side, Advanced Orthopaedic Associates now has expanded to the west side.

This week, AOA started AOA Now-Orthopedic Immediate Care at Ascension Via Christi St. Teresa at 14700 W. St. Teresa, Suite 130.

The idea is to offer urgent care that specializes in treating orthopedic issues.

The clinic is open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays. In March, hours will extend to 6 p.m. on weekdays.

Though there are no weekend hours right now, the east AOA Now office is open from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays and noon to 4 p.m. on Sundays.

It’s located at AOA’s office at 9828 E. Shannon Woods, just south of K-96 and Webb Road.

The clinics can treat sprains, pulls, tears and minor lacerations. They also can help stabilize patients and provide casts and splints and then refer them for follow-up visits at AOA.

For certain conditions, such as compound fractures, patients will be referred to an emergency room.

The clinics also offer back-to-school physicals for children.

The clinics are staffed by family practice doctors and physician assistants who are supervised by AOA’s orthopedic surgeons.

Both of the immediate care clinics are attached to AOA’s main clinics.

AOA executive director Amanda Ermey said to have the immediate care team so close to the orthopedic physicians “is very helpful for us.”

It remains to be seen if AOA will open more immediate care clinics, Ermey said.

“We want to see how this one goes for us.”
