As part of a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing, Lubbock-based Food Concepts International has closed its east-side Abuelo’s.

The chain underwent bankruptcy earlier this fall in an attempt to reorganize. As part of that, it is closing underperforming properties.

That includes the longtime Mexican restaurant at the Waterfront, at 13th and Webb Road.

It does not include the west-side Abuelo’s near Kellogg and Ridge Road.

“No, not at this time,” said a manager at that Abuelo’s. “It’s confirmed that we’re staying open.”

The west-side Abuelo’s has been open since early 2015.

The east-side Abuelo’s was an early — and at one time popular — tenant at the Waterfront and had been open for just over two decades.
