Well-known Wichita designer shows work in two fashion weeks, plans new concept
Hazel Stabler wasn’t the only Wichitan to show at Milan Fashion Week.
Designer Aida Stenholm worked closely with Stabler to create shoes, bags and hats for her show.
“I still can’t believe my stuff is there,” Stenholm said. “Thank you forever to Hazel . . . to see my designs in Milan.”
Last week, Stenholm had her own clothing designs and accessories on display at Kansas City Fashion Week.
“It was amazing.”
She created her first-ever vests, both long and short, for her show.
Stenholm said she’s been building her collection, which includes belts, earrings, hats, backpacks, ponchos and leather appliques, for years. She’s had more time to create and show her work since she no longer has a storefront.
Her most recent store had been in Clifton Square and was near Douglas and Hillside before that.
Stenholm said she’s planning to open another storefront at some point next year, but this one will be a little different.
First, Stenholm plans to buy a building for her store instead of leasing one.
In addition to the store, Stenholm plans to open a school to show people how to make shoes. She also wants to add shoe repair services to augment her business.
For now, though, she continues to work with existing customers. New customers can check out her work at www.aidastenholm.com.
Stenholm said she already has customers in the Kansas City area, but the Kansas City show helped advertise her work to potential new clients.
Look for more information on her new store probably mid-to-late 2026.
