TempleLive Wichita appears to be closed, but what will happen with tickets?
Amid national reports that TempleLive venues across the country are closing, it appears that the one in Wichita is among them.
Sunday night, employees of TempleLive Wichita were reached about a possible closure but were looking for information about it themselves.
“I’m not sure what’s going on,” one employee said. “We’re going to find out tomorrow.”
She added, “We’re the only ones making money.”
Then Monday, Google showed the venue as “permanently closed.”
There’s nothing on the site’s website except a contact e-mail, which is inquiry@templelive.com.
There are no details yet on what recourse customers with tickets to the venue might have.
TempleLive opened in Wichita in 2019 near the start of the pandemic as a music and event venue.
Arkansas-based Beaty Capital Group formed BCG Historic Wichita to buy the Scottish Rite Center at the northwest corner of First and Topeka. TempleLive Wichita is an affiliate of Beaty. The main number at Beaty was consistently busy Monday morning.
“We have a history with these historic structures across the country, and every time we acquire a new historic building, we are always a bit overwhelmed with the enormous responsibility it places on us to step into, touch and become a part of the history of each community in which we operate,” president Lance Beaty said in a statement at the time.
It was the first time the building sold since 1898.
The Romanesque building was built for the YMCA between 1887 and 1888, and the Scottish Rite Freemasons purchased it in 1898.
The Freemasons continue to lease space at the building. It’s not clear what the building’s future may be.
Look for more information as it becomes available.
