Delano business to close this week: ‘I’m just kind of over it.’
If you’re a fan of glass art and jewelry, you’ve got just a few days to get to Delano for the Paradise Glass Art closing sale.
The store has been at 517 W. Douglas, just east of the Monarch, for 18 months. It was in the Epic Center for three years before that.
“It’s costing me money instead of making me money,” said owner Tara Fessler. “It just doesn’t even come close to paying the rent.”
Fessler had been a comptroller before retiring and taking up glass art. She did so much, she came to a realization:
“If you make it, you have to be able to do something with it.
She thought a store made sense because, as she said she’s found, “everybody loves the glass art.”
However, Fessler said, not everyone is willing to pay for it.
Also, with the Paradise Power Washing business she and her husband have, Fessler said, she didn’t have time for work at both.
“It’s doing really well,” Fessler said of that business. “We . . . we wash everything.”
That includes buildings, houses, monument signs and truck fleets among other things.
Though Fessler handles the office for that business, she said when her Delano shop closes, she’s looking to spend more time with her new granddaughter in Oklahoma City.
Paradise Glass Art’s last day in business will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Fessler said she doesn’t expect to ever be back in the glass business.
“At this point in my life, I’m just kind of over it.”
