New Wichita store has a mission to help artists, the environment and animals, too
Jonna Ivin-Patton is on a mission with her new ReCreate store.
She hopes to reduce waste and inspire creativity by accepting new and gently used craft supplies to sell at discounted prices, and then she wants to help animals by donating part of her proceeds to the new shelter that Always and Furever Midwest Animal Sanctuary will be opening later this year.
Ivin-Patton said she’s looking for “anything you can dig up that’s craft related.”
“The idea is to keep all of this stuff out of the landfill,” she said. Donors then “can see that money goes back to the community.”
“We’re going to start at 10% until we get to a place where I know . . . the store can support itself.”
Eventually, she plans to donate 20% of her profits to Always and Furever.
Ivin-Patton said she’s a one-woman show, so she’d prefer for craft donors to call ahead at (316) 530-7675 if they have anything larger than a box or bag to donate.
She also wants to host workshops.
The store will open Aug. 1 at 5422 E. Central next to Beards Floral Design.
“It’s the center of Wichita,” Ivin-Patton said.
Alyson Goodwin and John Simpson of InSite Real Estate Group handled the ReCreate deal.
Ivin-Patton said a lot of the craft stores in Wichita are on the far east and west sides of the city.
“I like the idea of having something local and in the community.”
