Only a few months after getting her Home at Last store a home of its own, Karen Goodman is closing it to take a job as an interior design consultant for the new Ethan Allen Design Center.
“I got my dream job, and I’ve got to move on with that,” she says.
Ethan Allen opened at Waterfront Plaza on the northwest corner of 13th and Webb Road in July.
“I have always wanted to work for them or a larger company like that,” Goodman says. “It’s the brand that I love, and they’re just known for having super high-quality furniture, and they always have.”
Goodman’s consignment shop had been within RElove All Things Shabby near Central and Woodlawn. In April, she moved the store to a considerably larger space at 4625 W. Central, which is between West Street and I-235.
That store will close after business on Saturday.
Goodman says she’s not sure yet what will happen with the small space she still has at RElove.
“This all came about very quickly,” she says.
Goodman says she’s particularly excited about Ethan Allen’s new lines of furniture, which she says are a departure from the company’s more traditional lines.
“It’s very updated and very chic and just beautiful colors,” she says. “I’d love for people to come see me there at Ethan Allen.”
