Magnolia Soap and Bath Co. turns out to be the new party place

In August, Randy and LeeAnn Omstead shared how they hoped to transition from a moving company to a high-end soap business.

It looks like the two made the right decision, because their new Magnolia Soap and Bath Co. is now open at the Village at Greenwich, at the northeast corner of 21st and Greenwich, and doing very well.

“I think we picked the best location for this,” Randy Omstead said.

Their top sellers so far are their soap, shower oil, sugar scrub and body butter.

Omstead said he thinks eventually, once people can test the laundry wash, it will be the top seller as it is at other Magnolia stores.

The Christian-based chain started with a mom who wanted to find alternative products for her child with sensitive skin.

Omstead said another popular offering so far is a party space where guests can make their own soap and bath bombs and pour their own candles.

“That’s a very big hit so far.”

Prices vary on the number of guests — the space accommodates about 10 comfortably — and whether or not they bring their own vessels to pour candles.

There are party options for other sites, too. For instance, one business is having a party for 75 at its place of business, and the Omsteads will bring ingredients to them.

Randy Omstead said he and his wife are already thinking where they may open next.

“If business continues the way it is, we will go to the west side next.”
