Downtown coffee shop doubles in size; sister roastery to open at Revolutsia
Just over a year after opening their Las Adelitas Cafe by Esperanza Coffee Roasters at the Lux, Oscar Pineda and his wife, Flor Vanessa Pineda Olguin, are expanding in a couple of ways and slightly changing the name of their business.
The two opened in the Garages incubator space on the ground floor of the Lux at First and Market in March 2023.
They’ve since graduated from the program and hoped to open a coffee roastery there, but city code wouldn’t allow it in the space they planned to expand into.
So instead, they’re using the extra space for more seating and will put their Esperanza Coffee Roasters at Revolutsia, the shipping container development at Central and Volutsia.
Pineda said that works out great because that means they’re “making our space much more comfortable for our customers.”
“We have outgrown our space that we are at,” he said. “Sometimes people don’t have a place to sit and sometimes not even a place to stand.”
Previously, Pineda had said he and his wife wanted to create not only flavors but experiences through their coffee and share the cultures of coffee-growing areas such as Africa and Central America.
He said that is what has happened, and customers in return share stories and experiences with them.
“I really enjoy having them here in the shop,” Pineda said. “I feel like we are making a difference in our community here.”
Thanks to that community, he said the cafe has been growing organically.
It now will be known simply as Las Adelitas Cafe.
“We call it the corner of culture and coffee,” Pineda said.
The cafe has doubled in size.
Pineda said he hadn’t officially opened the other side, but customers went there anyway.
“They would be so excited about it, they would go and sit on the other side.”
There’s a new slow bar, too, which features coffees that take longer to make.
“We’re going to be able to highlight different types of coffees,” Pineda said.
He said there will be coffee education, too.
At the new roastery, which likely will open in January, there also will be seating along with a barista serving coffee.
Pineda also wants to expand the wholesale side of his business by partnering with places such as churches and offices.
“Hopefully, we can create a bigger difference together through coffee.”
Pineda said all of his and his wife’s new ventures are possible only with their customers.
“We want to make the best out of this opportunity that we have, so we really thank our customers.”
