Having a new baby is hard. So is a new business. But both at once? ‘Pretty challenging’
Having your first child is hard, and so is having your first business.
But Magda Carlos-Leon and her husband, Armando Leon, are brave enough to try both at the same time.
This weekend, they opened the Fur Seasons Pet Resort in the same center at 3590 N. Woodlawn where Hog Wild Pit Bar-B-Q is.
“Well, it’s pretty challenging,” Carlos-Leon said.
Her baby, Emmanuel, is seven weeks.
“Definitely having the support of my husband has kept me sane,” Carlos-Leon said.
Leon said their family and friends have been supportive, too.
They borrowed dogs from those family members and friends over the last week to test caring for pets at the business.
Fur Seasons offers boarding for cats and boarding and daycare for dogs. There are a lot of grooming services, too, and various packages that customers can buy. There also are memberships.
At the grand opening on Saturday, Carlos-Leon — who is the one who will run the business daily — had a meet-and-greet with three dogs who will be staying over the Thanksgiving holiday.
Carlos-Leon has a background managing a veterinarian practice and a couple of boarding and daycare facilities.
Leon is an engineer.
The two have always wanted their own business.
Leon is the one who suggested to Carlos-Leon that they open the business. She said she was concerned there wasn’t a need for it, but she said she learned otherwise and decided to do it.
“I’ve always loved animals, specifically dogs.”
She said she’s comfortable with them and noted, “Dogs are a lot easier to work with sometimes than people are.”
