Some familiar business people are bringing a new kind of gym to Wichita
Brothers Paul and Brian Suellentrop are known for the real estate they develop around Wichita, such as the Sandlot Garage Condos, but their siblings, Jennifer Lines and David Suellentrop, often are involved, too, without being named.
Now, the four are publicly joining to open two new businesses: D1 Training East Wichita and D1 Training West Wichita.
“Brian and I came up with the idea,” Paul Suellentrop said. “We were just looking for something where we could all find a business that we enjoyed.”
He said finding a fun one for Wichitans was a must as well.
Former NFL player Will Bartholomew founded the Nashville-based franchise in 2001. D1 stands for Division 1.
D1 is for kids 7 and older, teens and adults who are looking to improve in sports through an athletic-based fitness facility.
“We don’t target the sport,” Suellentrop said. “We target the athlete’s ability to do better in the sport.”
Brian Suellentrop said it’s all about qualities such as speed, agility and endurance.
He said there’s technology to track progress.
“What’s nice about that technology is you can see measurable success.”
D1 isn’t the kind of gym where members pop in and work out on their own.
“Everything that we offer is class-based,” Paul Suellentrop said.
There will be separate classes for children and adults.
Brian Suellentrop said kids especially can learn teamwork while working on their self esteem.
“It’s not all just about performance,” he said. “It’s also about building that self confidence.”
Pricing for classes is done on a case-by-case basis according to need.
The east-side D1 will open first, on Oct. 21, at the Suellentrops’ Hawthorne Court at 12938 E. 21st St. just east of 127th Street.
The west-side one will open around the first of the year at their Shops at Avante at the northwest corner of 37th North and Ridge Road.
In addition to liking what D1 offers, Paul Suellentrop said, “We feel like the brand and marketing are very strong with D1.”
The Suellentrop siblings, whose great-great-grandfather started Legacy Bank, are all involved in the Wichita community. Among them, Paul Suellentrop said, they have great contacts here.
“We thought it would be important for us all to do this together.”
