A popular Old Town retailer is closing after almost a decade in business

If you’re one of the many fans of what Robyn Wells calls “unique antiquities,” she has some devastating news.

She’s closing her Uniquities Home shop in Old Town after almost a decade in business.

“I’m sad, but . . . it’s time,” Wells said.

“I have two wonderful little grandchildren. I don’t get to see them nearly as much as I would like.”

Wells said she wants to spend more time with her children, too.

“It was a tough decision. I made so many friends.”

Wells said the store, which sells all kinds of new and used items from major markets to flea markets, does well financially. She said that didn’t factor into her decision.

In fact, she expanded the business in 2017.

“I hope that someone steps forward and is interested in possibly buying it,” she said. “I would happily just close the doors and sell them the inventory. . . . But if it doesn’t happen, I’m OK with that, too.”

Uniquities generally is open only one weekend a month, but starting July 11, it will be open every weekend through the end of August.

Sale prices will start at 30% off. Eventually, they’ll get to at least 50% off.

Wells said she half thought about someone she knows in Texas who does one big sale a year, which could be a possibility for her.

“Maybe I’ll do something else, but I don’t know what it’ll be, and it won’t be soon.”

She added that she still loves to shop and go to all kinds of markets “to find those unusual things.”

For now, though, Wells said she needs a break.

“It’s been a good ride. It really has.”
